In Saint Dominic Elementary School’s 7th grade, students begin to change classrooms for the first time, as preparation for what their days in high school will be like. In language arts, students continue to broaden their grammar, vocabulary, spelling, research and writing skills through a wide range of literary genres, from myths and mysteries to novels, short stories, plays, biography and autobiography. Math class teaches prime and composite numbers, square roots, numeration, metric and customary measurement conversion, the difference between mean, mode, median and range and elementary business mathematics. (Advanced math instruction is also offered to students in 7th and 8th grade.)
Social studies class focuses on the Americas, starting with Native tribes, European involvement with Columbus’s journey, the development of Colonies, the American Revolution, principles of American democracy, the Industrial Revolution and ending with the Civil War. In science, students dissect seven different specimens and learn about the cell, heredity and genetics, properties and uses of water, ecology and environment and laws of motion.
Religious education follows the life of Jesus and the New Testament, starting from His birth throughout His life. On Wednesdays, the 7th grade celebrates Adoration of the Sacraments.
