Pre-kindergarten at Saint Dominic Elementary School follows the Montessori philosophy, allowing students to “learn by doing” while using all their senses. Children are instilled with a love for learning and care for their environment while developing concentration, motivation, persistence and discipline. Within a general framework of order, children progress at their own pace and rhythm, according to their individual capabilities.

The pre-K classroom provides a nurturing social community where young children learn to participate in a cooperative group as well as accomplish independent goals. Three- and four-year-old children are put together, which allows older children to model skills for younger children. Students learn daily living skills, math, language, social studies, music and art. Religion is taught in a whole group fromat. Gaining an early understanding of basic teaching, learning and sharing concepts along with academics while in pre-K gives students a headstart for their studies in Kindergarten.
