At Saint Dominic Elementary School, students experiment and create art works in a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, video and computer graphics. They study color and color mixing, elements of design and composition and learn to work on projects on their own and in a group. Emphasis is also placed on the concepts of other curriculum being integrated into their art, such as social studies, language arts, science, math or health.
All grades use watercolors, watercolor pencils, and tempera paint, with acrylic paint introduced in grades 6 and 7. To enhance their tactile senses and encourage three-dimensional creation, students work with clay, wood and wire. Students round out their art education by studying art history and artists by using library, web site and video resources.
