Saint Dominic Elementary School offers students opportunities to participate in a variety of intramural clubs that meet before or after school. Following an informal format (i.e., there are no club presidents or officers), the clubs that are offered may change based upon student interest. Mrs. Elizabeth King, the kindergarten teacher, is the overall moderator and organizer of the clubs. However, each club has its own moderator and organizer as well.

Book Club

Book lovers in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades can join book club, where they participate in weekly book discussions on Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The moderator chooses books appropriate for each grade. In the past, 5th graders have read From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, 7th graders have read Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, which looks at a situation from both a boy and girl’s point of view, and 8th graders have read The Pearl by John Steinbeck and plays by Shakespeare in preparation for high school.

Chess Club

Chess club meets to discuss chess strategy and intense gaming on Mondays from 2:50 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. The club is open to all students in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades and is moderated and organized by Father Dariusz.

Jewelry and Macrame Club

Jewelry and macrame club learns about clay bead making and intricate knotwork on Thursdays from 2:50 to 3:50 p.m. Moderated and organized by Mrs. Ramsdell, Saint Dominic’s 8th grade teacher, the club is open to all students in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

Competitive Math League

Competitive math league meets before school on Mondays from 7:40 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. from September to January in preparation for the January league competition. The math league matches wits with other area schools in competition-style matches covering all areas of mathematics. The club is open to students in the 7th grade and is moderated by Mrs. Grehan, who also teaches 8th grade.
